Blog marketing is becoming an increasingly important element to your overall blogging success. Today, it is not only good enough that you write high quality content, but it is just as critical that you have an action plan to get your voice heard among the other 100 million plus blogs!
If you are thinking about starting a blog or if you already have a blog, there are a few things you need to do in order to become a dominant player in your category.
Write original, high quality content. This seems obvious; but often time people start a blog with the best of intentions and soon realize that it takes some work. Soon they get lazy and start to fill their blog with RSS feeds from others. If you find a great article, its okay to post someone else’s work, but don’t build your entire blog on that premise. Update on a regular basis. Everyone’s approach is a bit different, but the key is to update on a “consistent” basis. I advise bloggers to tell readers up front what your usual schedule is for new posts. The key is to set the expectation in the reader’s mind and then be consistent. It will show professionalism on your part and also help to show yourself as an authority. Have a well defined niche. This is an important point and it is becoming more important everyday. By “niche”, I am referring to a well defined specialty within your market. For example, if you have a topic about dogs, it is too broad of a topic and extremely difficult to get noticed in the search engines. However, let’s say your topic is about breeding poodles. The topic is much more specific and allows you to precisely target your marketing efforts. You have a total smaller market, but much more meaningful and responsive to your material. Take a few moments to review your blog as objectively as possible. This article is really more about you and your process rather than technical aspects of blogging itself. To have success and make money blogging begins with you and your commitment. If you have the desire, willingness, and commitment to succeed, then you already have the most important elements to success.The rest can be learned.
